I’ve had a Hammer external Hard drive for about 15 months, and I only turned it on when I did a backup — for maybe 20 minutes or so, once or twice a month.
The drive has now completely died without any warning. It just started one day all by itself and I am unable to access any data — just great as a backup drive, right ??
The previous comment that “as long as you don’t keep it running all the time it’s probably good for at least a year” says it all. Is that what you want in a backup drive — good for about a year ??

Not the biggest External Hard Drive, but definitely reliable. I’ve been using this drive for 16 months almost 24/7 and just last month I noticed that there were some unreadable sectors. I also got a message that the hard drive was corrupt, but I just restarted the hard drive and everything was fine. I think the magnets inside it are starting to wear out. I’m planning on transferring all my files on this hard drive to a new 500 GB external. Still, the message scared me half to death as a lot of important files on there.
That’s the reason for being a 4-star product. Other than that, as long as you don’t keep this drive running all the time it’s good for at least a year till you start seeing some problems. A must buy for anyone just starting out with broadband and accumulating large amounts of files. In addition, this hard drive is a good starting point when trying to figure out which drive out of a conglomerate of other drives as this is a really cheap 250 GB external drive. Highly recommended for beginners in the digital age.
